Triple-Portrait Of Migrant Worker Boys Picking Pecans

We were
following the pecans
somewhere in

North Texas,
maybe De Leon.
Anyway,

my brothers and I
were playing
Musketeers

with bamboo sticks
down in a
river bottom.

I slashed
with my bamboo sword
just right

and I sliced
Julian’s thumb
wide open.

We’re still
The Three Musketeers
today,

but our bamboo swords
have probably
rusted away.
